Yes, I think that is a better image. You can see much improved detail on the stalk and the thorns.

Now, just for fun, here's the next step. Darken the background for even greater drama. The easiest method is to use a dark backdrop (keep it out of focus), try to capture the branch in sunlight with a fully shaded background, or (if you have a very capable camera or DSLR) use fill flash and underexpose the background.

This will really make the "thorny problem" stand out!
