"St Hildas Abbey - Whitby ,UK"
Submitted: Sat Jul 18 2009 4:03 pm [View artist's Gallery]
Taken: 07/13/2009
Artist Notes: St Hildas Abbey - 14th Centuary ruin sits on the cliff top overlooking Whitby Harbour and the North Sea. The Abbey was an inspiration to Bram Stokes who used the setting for his character 'Dracula'

A very dramtic and imposing ruin.....

Taken with a Sony Cybershot DSC-T70 and edited in Picnik - converted to B&W, added a matt overlay, Vignette and drop shadow frame to create the mysterious ambience one would expect to find amongst religious ruins

• I like the lighting and stone textures, but the vignetting doesn't add to the image in my opinion. This would be great in B&W too. [by mv on Jul 21 2009]

• Fantastic stone structure!! It's impressive!!I like what you did.Beautiful with the clouds behind it. It would look fabulous also if you made it b&w and brought up the contrast just a bit.Like the crop.Just seen this in an old chiller movie. They had green lighting on it to make it look even more spooky for the scene.
